June Update: County Newsletter
Happy Pride Month folks,
Summer has finally arrived, and I hope everyone is taking advantage to the best of their ability. I have a few updates on the County Board.
First and foremost, I want to thank everyone from the community who came out in support of the resolution to observe pride month. Supervisor Kirby and I were enthusiastic to send a message to the LGBTQ+ residents of Kenosha County that we are safe and welcome, and the showing from the community was a clear signal of community support. Unfortunately, because of the committee composition (owing in some part to the smaller sizes of the committees), the Human Services committee tied in a 2-2 vote, and the resolution never made it to the board floor. The recording can be found here and in the links below. I highly recommend taking a look and seeing the outpouring of love and support from the community. It really gave me hope, and we are looking for ways to stand in solidarity with our queer neighbors outside of a County Board resolution.
At the same evening’s County Board Meeting, I was appointed to the Kemper Center board of directors. I have been working with both Kemper Inc. and the county parks system to begin to understand the way that Kemper Center operates and its priorities. Not much else of note has happened at the County Board; several people have been appointed to leadership positions and positions on boards of directors, and if you are interested, definitely check out the recordings from the meetings.
On Thursday, June 4th, we had our first budget visioning session for the 2026 county budget. The documents associated with all the department overviews can be found here and in the links below. I look forward to digging deep on the coming budget and making sure folks in Kenosha County are getting the resources they need.
